What to do in your first four weeks somewhere new so that you have a circle by the end of the month: interests, regularity, initiative.
Week one: narrow it down to three interests
The mistake most new arrivals make is trying to cover everything at once. Pick three things you'd do on your own anyway: running, pottery, film, board games, volunteering. A shared interest removes the need to invent things to talk about.
Save those three interests in your app profile, and the event feed will start showing meetups that relate to them rather than everything going on.
Week two: one regular club
Regularity does almost all the work. People start remembering you on the second or third visit, and only then does real conversation begin. One-off events don't give you that.
Pick a club that meets at least weekly and is no more than forty minutes from home. The commute is the main reason people drop out of clubs.
Weeks three and four: take the initiative
After your second visit, suggest something of your own: sharing a ride, getting coffee first, going to a nearby event together. That moves things from "we see each other at the club" to ordinary friendship.
A reasonable result by the end of the month is two or three people you can message directly. That's enough for the city to stop feeling foreign.
